Learn About Fragility of the AquiferMOMS, Museum On Main Street, Water Quality April 30, 2016 0 Comments As part of the Smithsonian Institute’s Waterways Exhibit at the High Springs Historical Museum, students at High Springs Community School’s FFA chapter took part in a cleanup around the original spring for which the town is named. The news article describing this activity was written by Kristina Orrego and appeared in the April 28, 2016 edition of Alachua County Today. Long dry and not flowing, the spring cone nevertheless is a conduit into the aquifer and, with the help of a $1,500 grant from Tractor Supply Company of Gainesville, teacher Jessica Butts’ students executed an exercise in aquifer protection. “I wanted them to understand that everything that you do on the land also impacts the water, ” she said. . |
Kristina Young, Program Director
The High Springs Waterways Exhibit will take place from July 16 to August 27, 2016 High Springs is one of only six communities in Florida to host the traveling exhibit. Young said the museum’s goal has been to invite community partners to get involved in talking about our waterways and our responsibility to protect them. |
